GAME WEEK #7: Away vs. Caesar Rodney

1. WEEK RECAP:

  • It was great having a Tech/Dover game felt like the rivalry we had pre-2016. Underclassmen… mark your calendars for Friday, October 25, 2019. Stands music was… well, just listen for yourself.

  • Despite the circumstances of being down five bass drums, great job on the pregame show. Received some compliments from STHS/Dover alum. A special thank you to the Morroni’s for helping us get the bass drum harnesses we needed.

    General Announcements

  • If you’re reading this on the band website, you’ll notice that the Member’s Area has received a facelift, and a few new updates. If you’re reading this through email… the music library has been edited, our last home show has been uploaded (4K quality), and stands music from the Dover game has been uploaded.

  • Tomorrow: be prepared to march after-school tomorrow. Hydrate, look over your music for Ghostbusters and Scream, and come dressed appropriately. It will be in the mid 70’s and humid with a chance of showers. The full band will not rehearse the entire afternoon. See the schedule below for details.

4. DETAILS: DSU HOMECOMING PARADE & GAME PERFORMANCES

Details & message on behalf of G. Batten:

Last month, this program had the privilege of going to Norfolk State University and witnessed the mighty sound of the Spartan Legion Marching Band. This month, not only do we have the privilege of performing on a college campus again in the Delaware State University Homecoming parade, but we also have the privilege of performing our show post-game after the football game. The last time this program had the opportunity to do this at DSU was in 2011. It is now 7 years later and I feel that it is within the best interest that we take advantage of this personal invite to do it again.

What will the day include?

The day will include the homecoming parade, lunch provided by DSU, game tickets provided by DSU, a presentation from the admissions team for Juniors and Seniors and the opportunity to perform our show post game.

We don't typically ask for many weekend commitments, at least not compared to corps-style competitive marching band programs who perform almost every weekend. This is a required event and will be treated as such. It will provide our students with a greater perspective of the style we march and the sound that we are striving for.

5. MILFORD COMMUNITY PARADE INFORMATION

Avoiding Issues:

  • Every year, three very avoidable things happen at this parade. I’m hoping by sending this information, we can avoid repeating them again:

    • ISSUE #1: Dehydration. The parade will be very favorable weather-wise; however, it is still nearly three miles of marching.

      • SOLUTION: Begin hydrating on Tuesday by drinking your weight in ounces.

    • ISSUE #2: Pickup Problems. Due to road closures and traffic near the end of the parade, it is very hard to drive up to Milford High School when we finish the parade. We have had to wait 30+ minutes in past years waiting for pickups to be signed out.

      •  SOLUTION: Park at the end of the parade (a good spot is Concord Pet Supplies, or park walk up from Grotto’s off of Rt. 1). This year, if we have to wait more than 15 minutes (handbook policy), we will leave and you will have to be picked up from STHS.

    • ISSUE #3: Forgotten Things. Over the past four years… hats were left behind twice, an instrument was left behind, and somehow, a uniform jacket was left behind once.

      • SOLUTION: Take extra care to make sure every single part of your uniform is ON you before leaving. It should be second nature by now.

There will be a live-stream of the parade on the Milford Community Parade Facebook page.

7. PARENT UPDATE – “Beats from the Boosters”

Contact Information:

Michelle Miller, President – ravensmusicboosters@gmail.com

Thanks to all who helped on Friday – the meal stop went smoothly and no one got back on the bus with tire marks! Didn’t realize people drove like it was a speedway in that parking lot! Wow! Shout out of thanks to the Mr. & Mrs. Morroni for traveling back to Georgetown for forgotten equipment. It really takes a village and we cannot do it without all the help we get weekly! Don’t feel like it’s too late for you to join in – there is ALWAYS room!

  • Grottos Fundraiser dinner at the Seaford location – This Monday 10/15! Voucher is on Charms, please bring one with you when you eat.

  • First parade of the season! Milford Community parade is Wednesday 10/17. We run similar to away games – load truck and buses, meal stop, and then a 3 mile walk – sign up to help!

  • Krispy Kreme Donut orders & money are due the end of the week (10/18). Donuts not your thing? (I forgive you!) They have 1 lb. coffee bags – it’s good and I like using them as hostess gifts over the holidays! DO-NUT miss out! (so sorry, I couldn’t resist!)

  • We are looking a light on help for Caesar Rodney game on Friday – sign up on Charms. If you are meeting us at the meal stop - please email Michelle (below) so she can set up locations similar to last week.

  • Our last 2 home games are 10/26 and 11/2 (senior night).

  • Senior dinner count is going out this week – it is critical that ALL band members fill out the survey – dinner will be catered by Moe’s, and the boosters are treating. (If you aren’t eating Moe’s, please choose that option on the survey).

  • Our gift card wreath is looking great – be sure to stop by the booster table to buy raffle entries! We are continuing to add to the wreath – up to $400 worth of cards currently. See attached flyer to generate interest with friends/family/co-workers. You do not have to be present to win! (flyer is also on Charms)

  • On-going fundraisers – time to start thinking about Christmas shopping and stocking stuffing!

    • Wa-Wa hoagie cards – see Larry, he would love to hook you up with some!

    • Scrip Gift cards – check out the flier on Charms – fill it out and turn it in with a check – we will send you the cards. Shopping is easy!

  • These fundraisers help to decrease the total cost of trips planned for the band and help to keep the band running smoothly.

  • Email us below if you need any of the fundraiser order forms/fliers.

  • Make sure you have signed up and/or downloaded the Charms app. It is our go-to for volunteering and planning around calendar events!

  • Next booster meeting is Tuesday, 11/13, at 6:30 in the band room.

If you have questions about a volunteer opportunity, contact us at ravensmusicboosters@gmail.com
